As you all may know, the earthquake that hit 2 days ago the city of Pisco, in Peru, has left about 500 persons dead, over 1,500 injured and thousands without a home. Pisco is a small fishermen town about 3 1/2 hours from Lima, the capital city. These hard working people have been left homeless and shocked with grief, having to identify their children among the bodies piling up at the Main Plaza. In the middle of winter they are sleeping in the streets, without electricity, food supplies, or even water.
Help is being mobilized but they still need YOU. Today, the amount of money that you would spend in a latte or cigarettes can help them, make them feel like they do matter in a world that seems intent in making their lives as hard as possible.
Below is a link that lists bona fide charities. You can check their certificate and stats to verify their authenticity, and learn how they distribute the donations received. $5 or $10 may not buy much these days, but it will be invaluable to the ones who are begging for your support.

Dolce & Gabbana
Come on, don't be stingy! 2 bucks could buy a sweater for a child that's freezing his bones sleeping on a park bench. 5 dollars could save a person's life. Do it right now, you will sleep better tonight.

2Being married is so much fun!
I'm still trying to figure out why I keep trying but my PayPal thing won't go through. Maybe I should just pick a different charity, eh? Too bad there weren't any animal charities on the list, I'm a big sucker for lost puppies.
3I chose Unicef because as usual the kids are the most affected, but all the other charities have high ratings in adminstrative efficiency, meaning that their help actually reach the ones in need.
The Peruvian Association that protects animals rights (Asociacion Protectora de Animales) is already lending a hand too
Thanks sticky!

I've put in a donation to unicef. You can also select the program you want to donate to, and I put it in the program for emergency relief, which will go toward Peru.
This is your mother country Shi, and I know this place is near and dear to your heart...which makes me
even more saddened
5Okay, I got it to work. Had to change charities, but it's all going to the same place for the most part.
6And I looked up the animal association, Shi, but I don't read Spanish well enough to know how to donate.
7ok, i am going to get a bracelet.
8wait i was under the impression that i could get a bracelet in the pic as well. i will set up a paypal account.
9I'll donate what I can, but I wish I could give more.
10Thank you girls
The amount doesn't matter, as long as we all contribuite a bit. I have also written to tv shows and hopefully everybody will feel moved by this tragedy and help too.

11Today is a sad day.
I'm going to give my donation trough Unicef in Uruguay. All this is very, very sad Rox.
12Shi, Are all the charities listed in the first link good ones (does the money goes to the people/victims?)? If so, I've got to get my hubby to do this because, I don't know how to work our paypal account.
Also, I know he would prefer to give through paypal. There are
so many charities to donate to, too. I'm thinking about the childrens one. Thanks for giving us a heads-up..it's a good feeling to help others (plus, they seriously need it..this is such a
tragedy).
13Thank you so much Loli. I just received a new slideshow with updated pictures and I'm crying my eyes out. Why does life have to be so freaking hard anyways? a child's leg partially undug in the debris, men sobbing like children at the sight of their loved ones gone. This is just too much. Let's all help girls, 2, 5 bucks, every cent counts. Pls just help us.

Thanks everybody who are donating money to this cause.
BB the way these charities work is you click on the link to the Earthquake in Peru and they will canalize all the donations through the appropriate channels in Peru. Most of these charitable institutions already have offices and representatives in Peru, and they have mobilized the corresponding officiales to make sure that the help arrives where it is needed.

15Today is a sad day.
I'll make a donation to Unicef.
A friend of mine from Peru said his family told him today that they were experiencing aftershocks.
16Shi, thank you.
17have they gotten emergency aid there yet?
18Yes they have gotten some help already, Unicef, Caritas, The Red Cross and other world charities are helping, plus the Peruvian Government has sent a hospital ship to treat the injured and Air Force planes with supplies. It is still not enough as people are looting for water and food. And the destruction is just so overwhelming that it will take a huge effort to overcome.

I have to say that I am very pleased with ppl forwarding my message and sharing it with their friends. Just now I have received it back from somebody who didn't know that I had written it. I feel very pleased, because even though if somebody cannot spare money to donate, they can always just forward the message and somebody along the way might feel touched enough to help monetarily. Thank you girls
